Tara Durkin

Tara Durkin, LCSW

Tara has been offering compassionate care to individuals, couples and families for nearly two decades. In addition to outpatient counseling, her experience includes residential treatment of adolescents, behavioral health rehabilitation services for children and adolescents including therapeutic support staff, mobile therapy and behavior specialist consulting, family preservation services and multi-systemic therapy.

In 2013, Tara was the first clinician in the region to become certified in Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, which she practices out of Family Services of NW PA where she has been employed full-time since 2006. Tara has co-presented on the subjects of child trauma and vicarious trauma at local conferences including the Crime Victim Center’s annual Victim’s Rights Conference and Edinboro University’s annual Trauma Informed and Resilient Communities Conference. Tara is currently completing self-study coursework in Gottman Method Couples Therapy. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, Tara is able to provide clinical supervision to Licensed Social Workers pursing clinical licensure.

Tara began her college education studying psychology at Nyack College in New York where she got her first experience as a social worker volunteering as an emergency room liaison at Nyack Hospital and serving on the Bronx Gospel Team to Urban Harvest Ministries. Tara transferred to Edinboro University where she graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work and went on to earn her Master’s Degree in Social Work. Tara was a founding member of Phi Alpha Honor Society at Edinboro University.

Tara has been offering her clinical services in private practice since 2015. She is one of few local counselors listed on Focus on the Family’s Christian Counselor’s Network.
